Our team is looking for a Rust Technical Lead for one of our clients.

Our client is a major European organization operating across 35+ countries, responsible for critical infrastructure and energy market coordination. They are driving digital transformation in the energy sector by adopting open‑source solutions and reducing dependency on proprietary vendors.

The project is a high‑performance, open‑source tool for validating, visualizing, and converting electricity grid models in compliance with EU Network Codes and standards. The solution is desktop‑first with optional Kubernetes deployment, targeting 25‑second validation on standard desktop hardware. The project starts from scratch (greenfield), with a modular, extensible architecture and a plugin system.

Working time zone: CET

Technology stack:
Rust, modular architecture, high‑performance data processing, API‑driven component communication, automated testing, CI/CD, logging & observability, performance profiling & benchmarking.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Lead Rust‑based development and own key technical and architectural decisions

  • Design core application logic and component interfaces from scratch

  • Ensure performance, reliability, and maintainability of the solution

  • Identify and mitigate technical risks

  • Review code and maintain engineering standards

  • Mentor developers and share expertise

  • Collaborate with architects, QA, frontend, DevOps, and customer‑side stakeholders

  • Contribute to technical documentation

Our expectations of the ideal candidate:

  • 7+ years of commercial software engineering experience

  • 3+ years of commercial Rust development (production‑grade systems)

  • Deep understanding of Rust ownership, lifetimes, concurrency, traits, and error handling

  • Experience as a Technical Lead, Lead Engineer, or Senior Rust Engineer

  • Proven ability to deliver complex production‑grade software (greenfield projects are a plus)

  • Ability to design clean, maintainable architecture

  • Experience processing large data volumes efficiently

  • Strong testing, code review, and documentation practices

  • Experience with performance‑critical and reliable systems

  • Experience mentoring or leading engineering teams

  • Good communication with technical and business stakeholders

English: Upper-Intermediate or higher

Nice‑to‑have:

  • Modular or plugin‑based architecture

  • Cross‑platform applications

  • Semantic web technologies (RDF, SPARQL, OWL)

  • Triplestores or graph‑based data storage

  • Integrating Rust with external libraries or runtimes (FFI)

  • Experience in regulated or infrastructure‑related domains

Soft skills:

  • Highly proactive – able to figure out who to reach out to and get things done independently

  • Stakeholder management – comfortable interacting with senior engineers, product managers, and client representatives
